MORE INFORMATION
To correct the problem:
1. Download the DCOM file appropriate for your system, but do not run it.
For Windows 95, download dcom95.exe
For Windows 98, download dcom98.exe
2. Select Start, Shutdown
3. Select "Restart in MS-DOS mode"
4. When you get the command prompt "c:\WINDOWS", enter these commands, each on a separate line:
CD c:\windows\system
rename oleaut32.dll oleaut32.ww1
exit
5. Windows will restart. Expect this error message: "a required .DLL file, C:\windows\system\oleaut32.dll", was not found"
6. Log into Windows
7. Select Start, Run, and run the file you downloaded in step 1
8. Reboot your computer
This should correct the problem.
If, for any reason, this procedure causes your computer to not function properly, reverse the above action as follows:
1. Select Start, Shutdown
2. Select "Restart in MS-DOS mode"
3. When you get the command prompt "c:\WINDOWS", enter these commands, each on a separate line:
CD c:\windows\system
rename oleaut32.ww1 oleaut32.dll
exit
4. Reboot your computer

SOLUTION
There are two ways to remove these incompatible files.
[1]
1.Download and run this executable from Microsoft: http://download.microsoft.com/download/msninvestor/Patch/1.0/Win98/EN-US/mcrepair.exe
2.When you run this executable, you must click Yes when prompted to overwrite newer files. Do not click No or No to All.
3.Reboot the computer and start the LapLink setup program again.
[2]
1.See Technical Document 296: How to Restore Default Windows Files.
2.The files to restore are OLEAUT32.DLL, OLDPRO32.DLL, ASYCFILT.DLL and STDOLE2.
3.Restore the file to the \Windows\System folder on your hard drive.
4.Reboot the computer and start the LapLink setup program again.
